ICT for Development

The ICT Trust Fund aims to increase computer use among school children throughout Egypt, improving citizens’ access to information technology services and reducing male and female illiteracy.

The programme consists of five projects which provide people with opportunities to use information technology:

  • A mobile ICT unit that visits schools and community centers in remote parts of Egypt teaching local people basic computer skills;
  • Special courses on computer literacy for schools;
  • A Community Development Portal (at KenanaOnline), providing information on issues of interest to local communities, such as health, education, rights and employment opportunities;
  • An IT Illiteracy Eradication initiative using multimedia CD-ROMs to teach people to read and write.

Electronic libraries which hold information in digital formats. Two UN Volunteers provide support to the ICT Trust Fund
