Civil Society Organizations Educational Networks on the MDGs
Miniya MDGs coalition members participating to workshop in February 2005 in Miniya
The Civil Society Organizations Educational Networks initiative aims to educate Civil Society Organizations(CSOs) about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Lower HDI Governorates in Egypt (Beheira, Beni Sueif, Fayoum, Menia, Qena and Sohag) and works through local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) also with media, academic institutions, schools and businesses. The objective is to use various popular media to generate a greater awareness of the MDGs among citizens in the governorates of Upper Egypt and encourage their participation in initiatives contributing towards achieving the MDGs. More specifically, the initiative aims to:
  • Produce a number of popular tools for educating citizens about the MDGs and their responsibility towards helping the Government of Egypt achieve them;
  • Instruct local NGOs in MDG promotion, advocacy and joint programming;
  • Educate other sectors of society such as the media and the private sector about the MDGs and encourage their support for local initiatives;
  • Create entry points for CSOs to have a dialogue with local authorities and respective Governors on the MDGs and local development.
