Aswan: Under Aswan’s midday sun a group of young women and men gathered on the pier before entering one of the eight MDG feluccas. On each felucca discussions and questions were raised about a particular MDG and the young participants looked at their role in achieving Egypt’s development objectives. Read

Cairo, Egypt: Representatives of the Egyptian Government, civil society and different United Nations agencies gathered on the banks of the Nile for the official launch of the Sailing the Nile project, a national initiative to raise awareness and encourage action towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). Between October 29th and December 7th eight feluccas will sail the Nile from Aswan to Cairo, making eight stops en route, each of which will represent one of eight MDG’s. Read

Cairo, Egypt: The Hope Village Society, an Egyptian organization dedicated to working with street children and a partner of UNICEF, is running a programme to train homeless children as mentors for even more vulnerable children on the streets in a suburb of Cairo. Not only is this programme assisting vulnerable youth, it is also raising awareness regarding the plight of street children to address the problem. Read
