All United Nations Member States have pledged to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. The project to "arabise" the MDG logos aim to raise awareness about the Goals in Egypt and encourage local participation by emphasizing the potential for local change and highlighting the efforts of local volunteers. Personalizing the MDG logos in this manner celebrates the cultural diversity inherent in the United Nations and recognizes the difference in meaning that a symbol may have from one culture to another. Similar projects aiming at personalizing the MDG logos are also being pursued by United Nations Volunteer offices in other countries such as Columbia and Armenia
