Is Angelina Jolie helping the cause of volunteerism?

Are we being too critical of these celebrity do-gooders just because they’re famous? Do these celebrities really care for the causes they seemingly so willingly espouse? If these celebrities are in fact committed to those causes they champion couldn’t they just send in a cheque?

Bringing the issue to the Arab world, what do you think of the Adel Imaam’s work as good will ambassador for the UNHCR? Does Mahmoud Kabeel project a good image of UNICEF?

Many celebrities are involved in volunteer work but are they doing this out of a genuine wish to help others or are they simply serving their own purposes? And does it matter?

I do not think there is a contradiction between a celebrity's intensions and volunteering to serve humanity a large. If Angelina jolie, is doing what she is doing to gain more publicity, or to alter a public persona, that categories her as one of the bad girls of Hollywood. Then so be it. She has been giving so much of her time to help others. I followed her work, ever since she joined UNHCR. The United Nations call for volunteer work and it's resort to celebrities is not tarnished by self interest. If celebrities have a following and they have something to say to there fans, trust me people will alter their views towards something of value. They will think, analyze and know. Additionally, public figures and celebrities , can change policies , can influence governmental decisions and can change legislation and see to it, that it get executed. They are well connected and they become the voice of those who can not speak for themselves.

The question of whether they are doing it for any ulterior motive other than the cause at hand , is not really important ... the fact they are doing it is what matters...
